Artspire Showroom
Shopfitting Design 2026St Kilda, Melbourne, Australia
Artspire is a furniture and art brand built on a simple idea: the pieces we live with should feel like works of art. For its flagship furniture showroom in St Kilda, Melbourne, iDDC translated that idea into space — a retail interior that behaves less like a shop and more like a gallery for everyday life.
Design Concept
Most furniture stores sell by quantity. Artspire sells by presence. Instead of filling the floor, we curated it. Each sofa, chair and object sits on its own soft “island” — a carved, wave-patterned rug that frames the piece the way a plinth frames a sculpture. Customers move through the showroom as they would through an exhibition, discovering one composition at a time.
Design Language
Soft Geometry — Rounded corners run through the architecture, from the curved glass shopfront to the softened canopy edge, echoing the sculptural, cushioned forms of Artspire’s collection.
Warm Neutral Palette — Full-height textured walls in sand and oat tones create a calm, continuous backdrop. Terrazzo floors, travertine plinths and natural timber add depth without competing with the furniture.
Gallery Lighting — Exposed track lighting is used as a museum would use it: each vignette is lit individually, so every piece reads as a highlight.
Texture as Ornament — Fluted walls, a hand-carved line-relief feature wall and layered rugs replace decoration. The richness comes from touch, not from pattern.
Biophilic Threshold — Generous planters, palms and a vertical green wall soften the street edge and draw daylight deep into the plan, blurring the line between St Kilda’s streetscape and the showroom.
Spatial Strategy
The plan unfolds in three moments. The shopfront is a fully glazed, black-framed façade with freestanding serif signage set among planting — the brand is announced through architecture, not banners. The gallery floor hosts curated living vignettes and an open timber display grid where chairs are shown like collected objects. At the rear, a material library and consultation lounge — lined with fabric and leather swatches around a central table — turns browsing into a design conversation, supporting Artspire’s custom and made-to-order service.
